Affecting around 20%, mental disorders in childhood and adolescence are not uncommon, and early treatment is essential. The Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychotherapeutic Medicine at Med Uni Graz offers inpatient diagnostics and treatment of all psychiatric disorders of childhood and adolescence. Specialized clinics focus on eating disorders, trans* health and developmental and behavioral issues. Consultations occur in the pediatric wards in close connection with the Department of Child and Adolescent Medicine, and adolescent topics are addressed jointly with the Division of Psychiatry and Psychotherapeutic Medicine.
Education and research are another important focus of the division. Students acquire knowledge relevant to their future practice. Research topics and findings of scientists, physicians and specialists serve to improve care for children and adolescents suffering from mental illness.
